Iconic Japanese artist Takashi Murakami is turning his favourite shoe, the Vans slip-on (he wears it in the studio everyday), into the focus for his project. Taking his colourful, anime-inspired work to a series of shoes, tees and skate decks.
Murakami is famed for what he’s called his “superflat” approach to work; mixing low and high culture in a distinctly Japanese form of anime, painting, film and sculpture. The collection will take Murakami’s recurring motifs of smiling flowers and skull patterns in a variety of colours, and a cameo cartoon of Murakami’s dog, Pom.
