angelic milk are big in the blog world, scoring attention with past songs IDK How and I’m So Happy (I Wanna Die), both of which are still playing on rotation in our heads. Having started out just two years ago all by her then 16-year-old self, Sarah Persephona was writing and recording in her Saint Petersburg bedroom. Now 18, the tales of teen angst are still flowing out of her and onto the internet in the form of sweet grungy pop like the tune we’re premiering today, complete with Valja Banjo Trailertrash-directed visuals. Taken from her forthcoming Teenage Movie Soundtrack EP, (“more than just a name, also a concept”) the video for Rebel Black is all skateboards and princess dresses in a project that merges line drawings with homemade Sims style animation and teen movie glitter stickers.

“People are used to dividing music they hear into genres, but genres capture musicians into cages – and cages are harmful for art,” explains Sarah. “Instead of following some particular genre, we follow the idea of creating the soundtrack for those movies all the teenagers make up in their heads – movies, where their own stories are almost the same, but more dramatic, more violent, more psychedelic, than in reality. And the Rebel Black video is a part our own imaginary teenage movie, where our lives are shown through the prism of our own aesthetic vision.”

angelic milk’s Teenage Movie Soundtrack is due for release 15th July on PNKSLM Recordings.
