Virgil Abloh, famously, loves a party. But not just a couple of glasses of prosecco in the basement of a boutique in Soho. One of the central tenets of his Louis Vuitton show back in June was the complete re-imagination of the tired post-show afterparty formation. “All my friends have a love/hate relationship with fashion parties,” Virgil wrote on Instagram the morning of the show, “so @_benjib and i made a new format.” The new format involved a sit-down performance by Badbadnotgood and Charlotte Day Wilson — who soundtracked the show earlier in the day — followed by DJ sets from Benji B, Judah, No Vacancy, Pedro and Virgil himself.
Despite the undertaking of the entire Louis Vuitton menswear division and his own brand, Off-White, Virgil has found time this summer to DJ at numerous clubs and festivals. When speaking to Billboard back in 2016 about his love of DJing, he described it as his go-to form of stress-release, “Djing is the new golf.” Karl Lagerfeld loves to draw. Dries van Noten enjoys a spot of gardening. Virgil Abloh likes to get behind the old ones and twos.
So if you’re looking to hear what kind of music Virgil likes to play, and have no plans this Sunday, and are New York-based, you’re in luck. Also Drake will be there. Announcing the event via Instagram, Virgil dropped a poster with the event’s location and the simple message: “this might as well be a movie poster... @champagnepapi & i scoring an afternoon with songs.”
