The visor, last seen hanging upside down and off the head of the all-American frat boy and then later in this tres damning ‘90s Trends That, In Retrospect, Maybe Weren’t Such A Great Idea’ article, is making a comeback. Of course they’re weren’t always deeply uncool. In fact, before being co-opted by various spiky-haired members of your high school pussy posse, they were heralded as the height of chic. Off the court and on. Because that’s what they were invented for, right? Half-moon hats that shielded the eyes from the glaring sun while providing much needed ventilation for tennis players. Or as one reddit user falsely claims: so women could get some shade without messing up their hair. Thanks, guys.

But anyway, back in the 90s any sleb worth their salt would rock one. Sisqó, Eminem, Paris Hilton. All the big fashion houses were doing them, stamping their big bold logos all round the rim. The bigger the logo the better. My friend bought a D&G one with her on a skiing holiday once, only it fell down mid schuss (alpine speak for a straight downhill slope) and she ended up skiing into a tree and getting concussion. It was rough, but I must say she looked pretty mega.
Much like my friend, the visor trend came crashing to a halt. Fast-forward to the here and now, though, and they are having a definite resurgence. Christopher Bailey called it when he sent a bunch of checked visors done his farewell runway; Tommy Hilfiger and Dior followed suit; Rihanna’s been repping one for a while now, and Kim Kardashian cemented the trend when she posted a picture of herself and Kourtney wearing identical ones for National Siblings Day. And if Kim’s wearing one, then they must be a thing. Watch this space.
