Following on from Alexander Wang and Chloé’s Clare Waight Keller, this month Sir Paul Smith will be taking over Apple Music’s new fashion channel, which launched two months ago. Sharing music that has shaped his career, the iconic British designer will curate three separate playlists. The first, Around the World in 20 Tracks, references his many and varied international travels: “[The tracks] remind me of all my years spent travelling around the word on trains and planes gradually growing my business from just a little shop in Nottingham, England to selling in more than 70 different countries,” he says.
The second, From Herbie to Holiday, is a love song to all his favourite jazz musicians: “I have brilliant memories of listening to incredible jazz when I was young in tiny venues all over the country and I feel very privileged to have seen a lot of these artists in the flesh.”
And finally, the third, Something old, something new, is a compilation of his musical past and present, split up into four parts. The playlist includes everyone from Bob Marley and Jim Morrison to Julia Holter and Christine and the Queens. “From the album artwork to the friendships I’ve built over the years with musicians, it’s all a part of my creative process”, reflects the designer. So sit back, relax, and listen to the music.
Paul Smith’s playlists are available from today, 8 August, for Apple Music subscribers.
