Alexander McQueen left a remarkable legacy. If that wasn’t already obvious from his unmistakable avant-garde designs or celebrity fanbase—which has included everyone from First Ladies to Icelandic pop stars—then the long list of exhibitions honoring the late designer demonstrates just how much he revolutionized the fashion world. And, yesterday, fashion photographer and 14-year McQueen collaborator Nick Knight dove into his own archives to release a new video tribute.
The McQueen montage, titled Lee Alexander McQueen, 1969-2010, was released on Knight’s fashion site ShowStudio and includes unseen footage from his earlier film To Lee, With Love, Nick (2010). Knight worked with filmmaker Younji Ku and art director Jon Emmony to enhance some of McQueen’s most remarkable looks with 3-D animations, allowing them to move in new and mesmerizing ways. (Remember that haunting duck feather dress from fall/winter 10? It looks even more hypnotizing overlaid and echoed across a screen.) The striking tribute – watch it above – applauds the impactful and revolutionary career of a legendary talent, and Knight’s personal friend.
