Gorillaz has never let being 2D hold it back. Anything a flesh and blood band can do, it can do — sometimes better. But the IRL world of physical media appearances always seemed just out of its animated grasp. That is until this week, when the band joined Radio 1’s MistaJam for a chat streamed live on YouTube.
2D and Murdoc Niccals sat next to each other on a couch, bickered, and took questions submitted by fans. The pair discussed twerking, their reading lists, smartphones, Donald Trump, and Grace Jones. Murdoc hinted he and the icon may be more than just friends.
Considering Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn — the artist and musician behind the virtual band — are presently working on a TV show, it makes sense the members are taking steps to get more comfortable with face-to-face publicity. After all, world domination does tend to require the odd media chat. Indulge in their charms below.
‘Humanz’ is out April 28.
