Lupita Nyong’o just reached three million followers on Instagram, and she’s feeling pretty good about it. In fact, she’s feeling pretty good about a lot of things. You can hardly blame her: if you were an Academy Award-winning actress who fights for environmental protection issues and lands beauty deals in your spare time, you’d also be shining.
To give us a little more insight into what she’s got going on, Lupita posted a truly epic clip of her rapping over Nas’ “N.Y. State of Mind.” Shouting herself out she mentions the four languages she speaks, her role as a face of Lancôme, the Disney paychecks and her work as a Global Elephant Ambassador for WildAid. She also makes sure she gives props to fellow actress and pal Robyn Hood, who helped her with the lyrics.
Beyond obviously just being awesome to witness the star’s tight delivery, it’s also cool to see such a powerful women comfortably taking credit for her achievements. Too often self-pride is mistaken for ego, and people feel uncomfortable congratulating themselves on their hard work. Lupita spent years getting to where she is today, she should be singing her own praises. We sure are.
