Peaches is on a roll with a series of challenging, thought-provoking music videos. Having teamed up with Sonic Youth legend Kim Gordon for the pro-wrestler themed clip for Close Up, and worked with alternative burlesque performers and older female porn stars on I Mean Something, she has now released perhaps her most challenging video yet, for Rub.
There’s full frontal nudity, simulated sex acts and a lot of body oil — so far, so standard for music videos — but Peaches’ video pushes the viewer to consider which bodies and sexualities we find palatable in a music video, and in culture more generally, pushing us to question why we find her films more shocking than most.
Fat bodies, black bodies, trans bodies and older bodies are presented nude and enjoying non-hetero sexual experiences. There’s a shot of two women pissing in public — as we’ve all regularly seen men do in the street on a night out.
If you’re shocked, Peaches is asking you to question why.
