The idiosyncratic, immediately recognizable world of Wes Anderson is really something of a parallel universe. A new supercut demonstrates this quite literally, juxtaposing the director’s most famous movie scenes with the vintage films that they’re subtly referencing. Some of the comparisons are Wes giving a more obvious nod to previous cinema legends — he appears to be quite the fan of Orson Welles and Citizen Kane in particular — while some of them are the supercut creator getting a little more… creative. But before you scoff at the idea that Rushmore was at least partly inspired by seminal ’65 holiday short film A Charlie Brown Christmas (and The Royal Tenenbaums by It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown) remember that fans have been pointing out the Peanuts influence on Anderson in everything from his sets to his scores. Lest anyone doubt it, he did name the dog in Moonrise Kingdom “Snoopy.”
