Perhaps in a bid to prove he doesn’t smell like a salty old sea dog, Johnny Depp has signed up to be the face of Dior’s next men’s fragrance. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor and father of insta-angel Lily-Rose was unveiled in an Instagram post by the brand, who captioned the image, “The house of Dior is about to reveal a new territory for men with Johnny Depp as its iconic ambassador. Save the date, September 2nd.”
Depp scrubs up well for the shot, wearing a crisp white shirt and black jacket, but retains his haute-bohemian look by accessorising with a chain, a beaded necklace, three silver earrings, moody eyeliner and artfully dishevelled hair.
Depp has never starred in a perfume ad before, but he was in good hands as the image was taken by Nathaniel Goldberg, something of a men’s fragrance campaign expert having shot for Aramis, Paco Rabanne, Armani Code and Davidoff. At Dior, Depp will follow Robert Pattinson for Dior Homme and Jude Law for Dior Homme Sport and Dior Homme Intense.
