Happy Monday! The new week is here and with it comes the chance to delve deep into some fresh culture and fashion. Here’s your latest look at the i-D Guide.
Wear… Gucci loafers
The weather’s a bit shit now, and so we’re collectively avoiding getting our socks sodden. How better to steer clear of the puddles and look indescribably chic than by donning a pair of Gucci loafers? These horsebit ones from Net-a-Porter are top of our list.
EARTHKEEPERSÆ BY RÆBURN x Timberland
The outerwear icons Timberland and sustainable designer Christopher Raeburn have joined forces again for AW22, creating a collaboration that ticks the right boxes for both parties. The Timberloop Boots are at the centre of it all: a sturdy piece of footwear that, when you’ve used them for long enough, can be broken down and recycled in separate parts. Check them out here.
JW Anderson x UNIQLO
Masters of contemporary staples UNIQLO and creator of — amongst myriad things — the pigeon handbag, JW Anderson have joined forces for their AW22 collaboration. Distinctly less zany than his usual runway fare, the hallmarks of his finely crafted work are still present across their line of outerwear, knitwear, trousers and accessories. It’s available online and in selected stores from 13 October. More info can be found here.
Snag… Loewe Earth
The new eau de parfum from the master noses at Loewe mixes violet and mimosa, truffle and pear: a heady scent to wave goodbye to summer in. Buy it from Selfridges here.
Tom Sandberg: Photographs
Experimenting with light and the vast gradient of shades you can summon from a black-and-white image, Tom Sandberg was a legend of his craft, famed throughout his native Norway and Scandinavia. But despite pockets of prestige (he had his own solo retrospective at MOMA/PS1 in 2007), the late photographer never reached the levels of global notoriety he deserved. Tom Sandberg: Photographs — a collection of his significant works — should change that. Buy your copy here.
Watch… In Dreams are Monsters at the BFI
The horror genre has a grip on us as this time of year comes around, but we often forget just how far back its history goes. In Dreams are Monsters, a new season curated by the BFI, sets to show us the most macabre and fascinating horror creatures of them all, present in everything from 1920s religious nightmares to the early work of Oscar-winning legends. Of course, there are the classics you might not have seen on the big screen, but also the kind of films you never even knew existed until you saw them on the line-up. The season will run from October-December at BFI Southbank in London, numerous other venues across the country and on BFI Player. Check out the full selection here.
Listen to… the new Måneskin track
Italian glam-rock band Måneskin have been dom-topping the charts since they won Eurovision in 2019. The band, known also for their sexy New Romantic fashions that have impressed the likes of Gucci‘s Alessandro Michele, broke the US with their last single “Supermodel”. Now they’re ready for global domination with their put-your-lighters-in-the-air emotional belter “The Loneliest”. The new single is available to stream now.
Go to… a celebration of the Black queer community
The home of Black storytelling PRIM have linked up with Burberry to stage a four-day pop-up event in London dedicated to the Black queer community. Featuring a bookshop, talks, live music and a vogue ball, to name just a few events, it’s taking place at the NOW Gallery between the 13-16 October. Find out more here.
The musical of My Neighbour Totoro
Making its world premiere at the Barbican theatre this week is the musical adaptation of Hayao Miyazaki’s animated masterpiece My Neighbour Totoro. Following the lives of two young girls as they move to the Japanese countryside and discover a world of sprites and monsters, it’s bound to be a feat of music and puppetry. Joe Hisaishi, who wrote the original score, is back on board, giving it the Studio Ghibli seal of approval. It’s running from now until January, but tickets are going quick. Get yours here.
