This weekend the ICA will open its arms and welcome back the Artist Self-Publishers Fair for a second year, opening its doors to over 70 independent artist self-publishers for one day only. The aim is to curate something “affordable and available” — working with artists who work with the freedom of the printed page; whether thats conceptual art icons like Stephen Willats, or young, cool, angry kids about town like Hate Zine, who’re launching their third issue at the fair.
Here’s our guide to what to see and buy.
Hate Zine
The project of Luise Le Voguer Couey and Scarlett Carlos Clarke will be dropping the third issue of their zine, featuring contributions from Robert Rubbish, Joe Sweeney, Tom Beard and Danny Fox. There’ll be a larger launch party later, but this’ll be your chance to get your inky fingers on their angry pages first.
The Nervemeter
The non-profit organisation will be returning to the ICA again, with issues of their counter-cultural take on the Big Issue. The Nervemeter is sold on the streets by homeless people and hostel dwellers, is funded totally by donations and all sellers keep all the money they make.
David Osbaldeston
The Manchester based artist will producing a new series of wood cuts that explore his preoccupation with the production of art itself.
Fritz Welch
Performance artist Fritz Welch is based in Glasgow and has been working for over 20 years in a variety of mediums, gaining a cult following for his experimentalism. For the ASP he’s produced a series of new tees, prints, that are sure to become super collectible in the future.
Good Press
Another making the trip down from beyond the border are fellow Glaswegian’s and sometime collaborators Good Press. Formed in 2011 to provide a platform and space for Glasgow’s independent publishers, for ASP they are bringing down a selection of their recent projects from the likes of Michael Wilkinson, Kim Fisher and Alex Dordoy.
