If you’re a man planning to check out Calvin Harris’ upcoming show at at Omnia in Las Vegas it will cost you $75 — if you’re a woman, make it $40. The $35 disparity between ticket prices hasn’t been explained by the Scottish DJ, and the proposed motivations range from heartwarming to gross.
Optimists have suggested that Taylor Swift’s boyfriend has picked up a thing or two from his girl-power spouting love, positing the difference was a quiet statement about the much discussed gender pay gap. Perhaps this is his personal effort to balance the injustice that women in the US women earn 82 cents to the male dollar and are regularly hit with the “pink tax” — that being the extra amount women are charged for certain products or services.
Others have taken a considerably more stormy view of the situation, pointing out that clubs have always made financial allowances to make parties more appealing to women. Free or discounted tickets is an easy way for a promoter to draw in women, which in turns attracts more men to a party.
We hope for the sake of the women attending it’s the former. No one wants to be party bait, no matter how good the discounts are.
