why sky ferreira’s single delay is a good thing

“Guardian” won’t be released in August, but here’s why we’re not singing the blues.

Back in April, Sky Ferreira confirmed the title of her sophomore LP, Masochism, after one music blog did some serious sleuthing and tweeted the singer its guess. Ferreira later announced that Guardian — her first single off the Night Time, My Time follow up — would be released this summer, along with a short film directed by her longtime BFF, Grant Singer. Today, Sky took to Tumblr to announce the project’s delay and outline the details of her decision.

Although she originally planned for an August release, she explained that scheduling conflicts and health complications have put the brakes on, temporarily. “It’s the first song I’m releasing since Night Time, My Time [in 2013.] It is a very big deal for me & a whole new chapter musically/visually/mentally so I want it to be released & properly made,” the 23-year-old alt pop smash wrote.

Despite these delays, Ferreira’s post got us pretty hyped for the video. In addition to teasing this “whole new chapter,” it seems she’s got a solid roster in the works: “What I’m doing for the video has to have a very specific group of very special people to make it what it is meant to be, so that means getting everyone to be available at the same time to do so.” Seeing as she’s tight with everyone from David Lynch to Miley Cyrus, we don’t mind waiting to see what’s in store.
