The Smiths are back! The Smith siblings, that is. It’s just been announced that Will and Jada’s prana energy-expert offspring have snagged headlining spots at Afro Punk Paris (which sadly does not include Moz, Marr, Patti, or a Smith by any other name.)
Afro Punk–the diverse and dynamic festival that each summer celebrates “the other black experience” at Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park–confirmed in a press release this morning that they’ll be taking the show on the road, making a two-day stop in the City of Lights this May. The Smiths will be joined by the likes of Lianne La Havas, Leon Bridges, Youth Man, Keziah Jones, Patrice, The Bots, and more as festival organizers plan to roll out a second wave of lineup announcements leading up to the springtime dates.
If you can’t make the teens’ Paris date, they’ve also been added to the final day of London’s Wireless festival in July. We’re crossing our fingers for a full-fledged tour, but crossing our toes that Smith Sr., Big Willy himself, hops back on the track with his young padawans. His last single, in case you had repressed all memory, was 2004’s Switch, a hilarious attempt at a party anthem only his uber-cool children can save him from.
AfroPunk Paris will be staged at Le Trianon on May 23 and 24, tickets available here.
