We knew something was going to happen on December 11th, exactly what, we weren’t sure, but anyone who’s anyone knows the only way to drop an album these days is surprisingly… 15-year-old Willow Smith released Ardipithecus today, comprising of 15 tracks, 14 of which were written herself, 10 that she produced herself, three with credits going to big brother Trey Smith (AcE), and two going to regular collaborator JABS.

“Ardipithecus Ramidus is the scientific name of the first hominid bones found on earth,” the young philosopher explained to The Fader. “I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because, while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state. Digging deep in the soil of my heart and finding bits and pieces of my ancient self that tell stories, which end up being the lyrics to the songs. Ardipithecus is my first album in my entire career and it makes me feel so blessed to be able to share my evolution with the LightEaters as I continue excavating my inner worlds…” You can hear what it sounds like for Willow Smith to excavate her inner worlds on US iTunes.
