Wynta’s story originally appeared in up + rising, a celebration of extraordinary Black voices, and is the first chapter of i-D’s 40th anniversary issue (1980-2020). i-D chronicled over 100 activists and artists, musicians and writers, photographers and creatives, in Atlanta, Baltimore, Minneapolis, LA, London, New York, Paris and Toronto.
“It makes me so sad thinking about everything that is going on right now. The killings of innocent Black and Brown people has to stop. The police and law enforcement need to understand that we are one people. No matter the colour of our skin we are one.
My message for racist people is — I want them to learn how to love people for who they are and treat them with respect. We know it will not change overnight. We are just asking for peace and for our voices to be heard. Spread love not hate. We don’t want to hurt anymore. We want to be equal. Until that day comes it’s: No Justice No Peace.”
