We asked a handful of our favourite photographers to look back at 2018 and remember it through the photographs they took. From i-D contributions to personal pictures of friends, family and strangers on the street, this is Yann Faucher: My Year in Photos.
Photographer Yann Faucher was born and raised in a small medieval city in southern Brittany, France, surrounded by marshes and the ocean. Moving to London to pursue photography full-time, he has gone on to contribute to magazines like i-D, Wonderland, Hero, Purple and L’Officiel Hommes, worked with numerous brands, and more recently worked on a magazine with model and designer Philip Ellis entitled Enlarge Your Memories, an alternative presentation of Ellis’s latest collection.
January and February
I spent my first days of 2018 in California. Whilst there I had a bit of time off. I took the car and went for a drive along the coast between LA and San Diego, and caught up with some local surfers during the last hours of the day.
March and April
Pharrell, simply. Spring.
May and June
Greece in July. I gazed at this pier for a very long time before getting onto it. I am deeply connected with seasides, they nourish my creativity and are socially wonderful places.
July, August and September
Taken in Le Pyla, France. “The art of beaching” with my two nephews, Childéric and Aloïs. I rarely take pictures of them, but I do like the placing of their hands, it reveals and says quite a bit of who they are.
October and November
Outtakes from a photoshoot in Paris with Arthur.
December
Archive pictures, in the forest.
