Ever since Netflix dropped the first season of You at the tail end of 2018, we’ve been obsessed with Penn Badgley as murderous stalker Joe Goldberg and dying to see where he ends up in season two. Now, it seems we don’t have much longer to wait.
Netflix has just officially confirmed the second season of the ‘Gossip Girl Gone Bad’ drama will drop on December 26. Just in time for that post-Christmas dinner, half-asleep on the sofa binge watch. Everyone knows nothing good happens in between the bacchanalia of Christmas Day and New Years Eve, so this is perfect timing, really.
What else do we know about the series so far? Well, bits and pieces, basically! The plot of the new season follows Penn’s character Joe as he moves to Los Angeles and finds a new love after murdering poor Guinevere Beck at the end of season one. Based on Caroline Kepnes’ Hidden Bodies (she also wrote the novel on which the first season is based), it will introduce Joe’s new love interest, Love. No, that’s literally her name.
Love will be played by Victoria Pedretti, who you may know from portraying Nell in the terrifying Haunting of Hill House. The show will also star Heathers actor James Scully as Love’s brother Forty — their family is big into tennis — and Jenna Ortega as Ellie, a new character described as a “cunning teenager”.
And it sounds like the second season will be even more gruesome than the first. Penn Badgley said that felt physically sick filming scenes for the show earlier this year. “There are some things I’ve done with prosthetic bodies in this [new] season that were kind of nauseating as I did them, I will say that,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Some horrific festive viewing, no doubt! We can’t wait.
