You know those people who’re too talented for their own good? Already juggling life as a ghost Pokémon and a successful touring band, North London’s Gengahr are teaming up with select contemporaries on an art exhibition at A-Side B-Side Gallery at Hackney Downs this weekend. “Ed (Nash, of Bombay Bicycle Club) and I went to art college together, so it’s something we have been thinking about doing for a while,” Gengahr’s bassist Hugh Schulte, who curated the exhibition, explains. “I’m also a massive fan of Thom and Laurie’s art and felt it was too much of a lovely coincidence that I have gotten to know all these guys who paint alongside their musical careers. I feel their work is under-acknowledged and after a few late night conversations we all agreed it’d be a really nice thing to do. I’m looking forward to their artwork being centre stage for a week.” While Hugh has already put his painting skills on show via the majority of his band’s artwork, and Laurie Vincent of Slaves paints and tattoos his designs for/on his willing fans/victims, we’re intrigued to see work by Alt.J’s Thom Green and Ed Nash of Bombay Bicycle Club.
The exhibition opens this Friday night from 7pm at A-Side B-Side Gallery and runs from 8th to 11th August. Free entry. RSVP here.
