As we’ve discovered with anything 1D related, the internet is about to go crazy with Directioners pouring out their love for now EX-One Direction member Zayn Malik. It’s a rumor that’s been making the rounds for the last few days (along with the scandalous pics of Malik with his arms around a girl who isn’t his fiancé, Perrie Edwards, in Thailand), but world’s biggest boyband have just confirmed his departure via their Facebook page.
“My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined,” he says. “But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”
But don’t drown in your own tears just yet Directioners, the group may be one fifth less beautiful now but Harry, Liam, Niall and Louis will continue making the best songs ever (I think it went oh, oh, oh).
“We’re really sad to see Zayn go,” the remaining four say in the statement, “but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.”
And he may need some downtime but we’re pretty sure this won’t be the last we see of Zayn either as we hear he’s been in the studio with Naughty Boy and Emilé Sande…
