The outspoken actress and musician announced the news by posting a video of herself in natural and cyber-beauty looks.

CoverGirl has tapped Zendaya Coleman as its fresh new face. After posting a photo of herself on Instagram yesterday with the caption, “Something new…something beautiful #ComingSoon…” Zendaya confirmed the news of her collaboration by sharing a video on the same platform. The clip sees Zendaya in two looks — one natural, one cyber-beauty — while nailing the brand’s catchphrase “Easy, Breezy, Beautiful, CoverGirl.”

Of course, it’s not just Zendaya’s unquestionable beauty that’s won her a CoverGirl campaign. Back in October, Zendaya ignited a social media storm when she took a stand against retouching. “Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19-year-old hips and torso quite manipulated,” the Disney-star and singer wrote on Instagram, sharing a before-and-after comparison of her shoot for Modeliste Magazine. “These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love,” she wrote of the heavily re-touched images.

Previously, the outspoken star has used Twitter to call out TV host Giuliana Rancic, who made the offensive implication that an “18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or weed” following Zendaya’s Oscars appearance. Coleman responded: “There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair.” As a result, Zendaya’s Vivienne Westwood Oscars look was subsequently immortalized in Barbie form by toy manufacturers Mattel. “When I was little I couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like me, my…how times have changed. Thank you @barbie for this honor and for allowing me to be apart of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty,” Zendaya wrote on Instagram.

Joining CoverGirl’s impressive roster of outspoken, spokeswomen — Queen Latifah, Ellen Degeneres, Janelle Monae and P!nk — Zendaya’s confident, non-apologetic approach that’s won her such a large, loyal social following to date, is setting a new benchmark for beauty diversification.
