It includes the three hour director’s cut of the film!

Can you believe we really thought that the sacrificial holiday depicted in the 2019 movie Midsommar would be the most traumatic summer to have ever existed, only for it to be trumped 12 months later by one marked by the global spread of a deadly virus? Just when you think it’s all over, it really bloody isn’t.

The same, thankfully, could be said for the life of that Ari Aster-directed, Florence Pugh-starring masterpiece. Widely considered one of the best movies of last year, Midsommar was re-released in cinemas in a new director’s cut format a few weeks after it first arrived, clocking in a few minutes shy of three hours long. Critics called it “richer, darker and more rewarding”.

Well, if you missed that version in cinemas, now you have the chance to see the film the way Ari Aster intended from the comfort of your own home, and it comes in a pretty package that includes a 64-page book unpacking the making of and inspirations behind the film.

Coming to you straight from A24 themselves, the book includes a foreword about the film written by the legendary Martin Scorsese, as well as a big collection of artwork by Ragnar Persson, who painted the murals inside Siv’s house and the Youth House in the film. It’s all packaged to resemble a daisy yellow clothbound book that would sit on your shelf, looking like an insight into the fairly innocent Swedish culture of Midsommar. Only, when you open it up, horror lies inside. You’re welcome!

The limited edition Blu-ray/book is available to buy on the A24 website right now, but it’s selling quickly. Act now or regret not owning a valuable, beautiful piece of movie history.
