It’s been six decades since beatnik forefather Allen Ginsberg first “watched the best minds of [his] generation destroyed by madness.” To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Howl’s publication, producer Hal Willner is teaming up with the David Lynch Foundation to stage a commemorative benefit concert.
Courtney Love, Amy Poehler, Devendra Banhart, Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, and more have all signed on to perform excerpts from the momentous work. Fittingly, proceeds will benefit the David Lynch Foundation, which seeks to alleviate post-traumatic stress disorder through the promotion of Transcendental Meditation techniques (of which Ginsberg was a known enthusiast.) The event will take place at LA’s Ace Hotel on April 7, while tickets go on sale tomorrow.
