After months of rumors and speculation, it was finally announced in April that the Belgian-Italian designer Anthony Vaccarello was going to take over from Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent. Now, Vaccarello has announced he will be shuttering his eponymous brand in order to concentrate on running the historic French maison. He will not be hosting a spring/summer 17 show during this season’s Paris Fashion Week.
“This adventure has been amazing but I now feel the need to fully focus on this new project,” Vaccarello said in a statement. Vaccarello launched his own label back in 2008, and was critically lauded for his new vision of classic sexiness. He caught the eye of Donatella Versace, and took over as Creative Director of Versace’s sister label Versus. But now it appears the designer’s fall/winter 16 collection, shown in Paris in March, will be his last to hit shelves under his own name for the time being.
We’re all still eagerly anticipating his new vision for Saint Laurent, which will be unveiled this season in Paris. Our first glimpse — a series of images by Collier Schorr and i-D Fashion Director Alastair McKimm — captured 15 new faces. We can’t wait.
