Arca announces details of her new album, KiCk i

And dances with the devil in a wild new music video. Mutants, rejoice!

There were delicious rumours swirling that the next Arca album would include collaborations for the first time, which in this case meant that her friends Björk and Rosalía would be making musical appearances. Not only are the rumours true but there’s more! It was just announced that Arca’s fifth album will also feature London NUXXE queen Shygirl and the inimitable SOPHIE. An incredible line-up if we ever saw one.

Out 26 June on XL Records (vinyl to follow on 17 August), KiCk i is a celebration of Arca finding joy on her journey; audibly documenting the reconciliation of her Venezuelan roots with her trans non-binary identity via an exploration of reggaeton, pop and a whole lot more besides. “I don’t want to be tied to one genre,” she explains. “I don’t want to be labelled as one thing.”

With the announcement came the release of a wild new music video for “Time”, shot in front of a live audience during the artist’s Mutant;Faith performance project at NYC’s The Shed last September. Dreamt up by Arca in collaboration with Carlos Saez (the brain behind those iconic laser angel wings and the face behind the purple devil mask) and directed by MANSON, the visual centres on our protagonist as she rides a mechanical bull and seduces the devil. Set to a beautiful ethereal score, the two dash out into the late night city streets, making out in the back of a limo before letting loose in a karaoke bar. It’s sexy. It’s fun. It’s 2020 Arca and we’re obsessed!
