art school want you to experiment (but behave) in 2018

Eden Loweth and Tom Barratt are, quite simply, too cool for art school. They met at a party and sparks flew. Eden was a fashion student at Ravensbourne, and Tom at CSM. First they fell in love, then they fell into business. Cue Art School. Drawing on their non-binary identities, and the gender fluidity of their friends, the brand is a celebration of the idiosyncratic nature of queer style. “Transformation and the evolving nature of the trans body is something very close to us,” Tom told us, after being shot by Tim Walker for i-D’s Creativity Issue. “We both identify at different points of the gender spectrum. This inevitably influences our work.”

This year saw the duo hit the London Fashion Week Men’s calendar with a bang. Their autumn/winter 17 presentation, created jointly with the Theo Adams Company, was a riot of sound and movement, and was pure escapism, full of heightened emotion, implicitly rather than explicitly political, and both bold and beautiful. Here, the pair offer their advice for a brilliant, and queer, new year. Be good, be bad, be 2018.
