Model, muse, French fashion correspondent, trainer connoisseur, tiny glasses aficionado… there is seemingly no end to the talents of Miss Bella Hadid. And now she’s adding another string to her bow: acting. Stepping off the catwalk, Bella will make her on-screen debut in the Hulu series Ramy, it has been reported today.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bella will be joining the A24 show in its third season with a recurring guest star spot. Ramy – created by and starring Ramy Youssef and loosely based on his own experiences as a first generation Egyptian American Muslim – follows the titular character as he navigates millennial life from his divided New Jersey suburb, juggling his faith and lifestyle choices.
Not much is known about the show’s third season so far, or what role Bella will play (perhaps she’ll be appearing as a fictionalised version of herself?). What we have been told, as THR reports, is that season three will follow Ramy and his family as they’re “forced to confront having lived a life dedicated to worldly concerns, and in some cases lies, while Ramy all but abandons his spiritual journey, instead of dedicating himself to his and his uncle’s diamond business”.
Also starring Laith Nakli, Hiam Abbass, Amr Waked, May Calamawy, Dave Merheje, Mohammed Amer and Steve Way, Ramy has already become known for some fun guest star spots (last season it was Mia Khalifa). And now Bella! While this is her first role, it’s not the first time the 25-year-old model has expressed an interest in acting. “I think it would be really fun because it’s exciting to be in front of the camera on film instead of just pictures,” she told Vogue back in 2016 (the same year she appeared in Tyler Ford’s kind-of-short-film, kind-of-video-shoot, Private). “I have so many goals, but most of the time I like to keep them to myself because I’m really superstitious.”
Although it was renewed for season three all the way back in July 2020, there’s no word yet on when the next instalment of Ramy will drop. For now, we’ll have to wait impatiently to see our new favourite thespian, Bella Hadid, earn her Emmy.
