Is this the New York designer’s most ambitious portrait series yet?

Marc Jacobs’ spring/summer 16 campaign is getting a little crowded — literally. Last season, the designer enlisted a star-studded cast, including Cher, Winona Ryder, and Willow Smith. Each of these longtime friends sat for an individual David Sims portrait, styled by Katie Grand. This season, though, Sims’ shots are packed with Jacobs’ handpicked lineup of models and muses, and the party just got some major new guests.

After sharing individual shots of RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Milk, comedian Sandra Bernhard, and Matrix director Lana Wachowski on Instagram earlier this month, Jacobs has uploaded a flurry of group shots over the last 24 hours. The portraits feature Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto (who also walked in the spring/summer 16 show), actress Juliette Lewis, iconic singer and actress Bette Midler, photographer Ethan James Green, and Cable frontwoman Tracy Antonopoulos. The colorful crew is flanked by a roster of Jacobs’ favorite models — both established and emerging. Bella Hadid, Julia Nobis, Molly Bair, Guinevere Van Seenus, Joan Smalls, Mari Agory, Kiki Willems, Adriana Lima, Veronika Vilim, and Jamie Bochert all make appearances.

Jacobs accompanies each upload with a heartfelt caption, like his earnest recollection of the Divine Miss M’s impact on his childhood. “I was so instantly enamored by the silhouetted Bette in a black dress wearing platform sandals with a wedge of red curly hair that I recreated it on the back of a jean jacket with acrylic paint and embroidery floss and proudly wore it to school,” Jacobs wrote.

It’s difficult to imagine Jacobs enlisting anyone else for this already prolific campaign, but he’s always full of surprises.
