Billie Eilish is back with new music

The 18-year-old remains Gen z’s undefeated star.

Before this whole thing happened, Billie Eilish was hard at work: touring the US with her gargantuan “When We All Fall Asleep” tour, promoting a rather successful Bond single, and appearing on the covers of magazines for the umpteenth successive month. When the pandemic arrived, it seemed like Billie might finally find the time to pause for a second and recalibrate. She’d come of age with cameras seemingly prying on every angle of her life.

But if Billie’s done that, then she’s already eager to get going again. After months of creative silence — bar the formal release of her tour interlude that sees her express her stance on the public’s scrutinising and perverse take on her own body —  she’s finally announced her return. Yep, if you’ve felt the lockdown projects of Charli XCX and Taylor Swift were a little bit sullen at times, be prepared for full blown dystopia from the music scene’s queen of gothic, moody pop.

Announced via Twitter and an Instagram post over the weekend, Billie said that “my future” — which could well be another mega entry into her already illustrious back catalogue — would drop on Thursday.

But what if we weren’t getting a new single?! What if, in fact, this was a different project altogether? A documentary film? OMG, a whole new album?! God, the suspense is killing us. Return on Thursday and we’ll have a better idea of what Billie has been brewing during lockdown.
