Happy friday our fashion-pilled friends! The menswear shows have now finished and while we have a quick break before we’re back in full swing for couture, here is some of the news you’ve missed: from Burberry’s Spring 2024 lookbook to a bunch of new shopping hotspots to check out in London this weekend, here’s what’s in fashion.
System’s entire print archive is now online for free!
Calling all chic fashion geeks (aka everyone reading this, we like to think!). A treat! For you! And boy, what a treat it is. Last week, our dear friends over at System – the tome-like fashion publication known for its exquisite long-read interviews, profiles and editorials documenting the minds and moments shaping the industry – launched their digital platform. But it isn’t just any old digital platform – why isn’t it, you ask? Well, because they’ve only gone and published their entire print archive online, featuring in-depth, often tell-all conversations with fashion’s defining figures. From Nicholas Ghesquière infamous interview – which famously got him in a spot of trouble with his former bosses – through to candid chats with Yohji Yamamoto, Rei Kawakubo, Rick Owens, Miuccia Prada, Demna, Alessandro Michele, Virgil Abloh… ok, you get the picture, but basically, this is perhaps the most exciting drop for fashion history freaks that we’ve seen in some time, and it’s available here for FREE! Glasses on, girlies! MS
OTW by Vans takes the legendary skate brand to a new level
Just last week, Vans announced the launch of its new pinnacle category – OTW by Vans – which will platform the brand’s most elevated products and brand experiences, under the direction of Ian Ginoza, Vice President of Creative Direction for Pinnacle. How does one celebrate such a momentous announcement, you ask? Well, by throwing a party in Paris, of course!
Vans created a custom skatepark on the Seine during Paris Fashion Week Men’s, and invited the city’s fashion set out to celebrate alongside performances by Onyx Collective and King Krule. A select few friends of the brand were showing off some of the first OTW by Vans products, including some pretty hyped up collabs – spanning apparel and footwear – that we had the pleasure of previewing in Paris last week. The first will be with S.R. STUDIO LA. CA. by Sterling Ruby, which will also be the artist’s first collaboration ever. “Vans feels right to us, it defines a certain West Coast history,” Sterling said in a press release. “The company started in 1966 and has run in tandem to so many skaters, bands, and movements that have been influential to me, my art, and how my studio runs as a whole.” With such an exciting debut ahead, we can’t wait to see all that OTW by Vans has in store. It’s “Calvins or nothing” for Calvin Klein’s Spring 2023 campaign
For their new campaign, ‘Calvins or nothing,’ Calvin Klein enlisted photographer Brianna Capozzi to photograph some of the most exciting women athletes in… you guessed it! Their Calvins. Highlighting the brand’s new Modern Cotton Underwear, high rise and bootcut 90s jeans, as well as signature logo tees, Alex Morgan, Chloe Kelly, Kenza Dali, Mana Iwabuchi, and Mary Fowler are captured in an intimate studio setting that speaks to their singular confidence. After all, they’re at the top of their game for a reason. The resulting campaign is a celebration of athleticism, strength and vulnerability – hopefully coming soon to a billboard near you. In the meantime, snap up the latest styles in store or at calvinklein.com. ND
Future takes over Lanvin Lab for their first collection
From Duasace to Pharrell’s LV extravaganza, the lines between fashion and music continue to blur and continuing this is Lanvin, who have crowned Grammy-winning mumblecore rapper Future the creative director of the first ever Lanvin Lab capsule collection. Lanvin Lab has been set up as a way for the French luxury house to continue to define the culture du jour, the idea being each release from the label will be created in tandem with creatives, artists and designers from a wide range of disciplines. Future’s collection will include menswear, womenswear and accessories and is set to explore the relationship between music and fashion. What does that look like? Well, you will have to wait until Autumn 2023 to find out. One thing’s for sure though, it’s going to be another epic fashion-meets-entertainment moment to go down in history. TG
Burberry looks to British outdoors wear for Spring 2024
Those fearing we’d have to hold out till September for Daniel Lee’s sophomore offering for Burberry will have been relieved by yesterday’s surprise reveal – a complete Spring 2024 collection from London’s proudest house. A continuation of the exploration of archetypes of British dress – particularly the sort of pieces worn rambling in our great isles’ great outdoors – that characterised his AW23 debut, this sees Daniel take a lighter, more playful tack, reframing and refreshing motifs laden with familiarity.
Amply cut shirts, trousers and car coats are warped, monochrome Prince of Wales check jacquards, creating illusions of undulations of fabric across the body and puddled hems, while a draped blanket dresses in a forest green iteration of the fabric features a zipper that coils around the body, allowing for modular styling. A similar sensibility informs a beige knitted jumper with snap-off sleeves, allowing it to be worn as a rave-ready vest, and styled here with a brighter riff on the parachute-style Burberry Check trousers that served as a throughline for Daniel Lee’s debut collection back in February.
Elsewhere houndstooth checks figure across blockish carcoats, blanket capes and jacquard tracksuits, with the latter appearing as a head-to-toe ensemble, or broken up and styled with sumptuous leather puffers and silky rugby shirt boasting lurid, airbrushed dandelion prints. Appetites for exquisitely crafted yet resolutely contemporary leather goods will be sated by an expanded range for the Knight bag – which includes a puffy, studded leather we’re already gagging to get our hands on – as well as the insouciant Shield Sling shoulder bag in crinkled leather, and a quilted tote with Burberry Knight embossing, while those after something that embodies the twee child-like whimsy that lifted Daniel’s AW23 offering will no doubt make a beeline for the duck print jersey pieces, styled here with peach rubber boots. All in all, an impressive evolution of the designer’s nascent vision for the house, and one that’s whetted our appetites for what’s to come in September. MS
Burberry’s New Bond Street store has a makeover
But that’s not all that’s gone down in Burberry’s world this week! As well as a brand new collection, the British house has also opened a whole new store to house it in, reopening its refurbished New Bond Street location. An evolution of the store concept that visitors to the house’s Sloane Street store will be familiar with, it offers an immersive shopping experience in an achingly cool, minimalist space housing the brand’s complete product range and a snazzy VIP space. “We are excited to open the doors of our newly refurbished flagship store on New Bond Street in one of London and the world’s premier luxury shopping destinations. The store showcases our beautifully crafted products in a luxury setting that connects our customers with our brand and unique heritage,” Jonathan Akeroyd, Burberry’s CEO, says. “We look forward to welcoming back our local and international customers to our new home – and unveiling Daniel’s collection when it arrives in store in September.” Before then, though, be sure to head to 21-23 New Bond Street to check out the house’s current offering — oh and the lighting design intentionally modelled on its iconic Burberry Check — talk about attention to detail! Dior Men’s comes to SW1 in a new London boutique
Girlies your new home away from home awaits on Sloane Street in Knightsbridge: it’s the new Dior store! Bringing Kim Jones’ menswear offerings to the area for the first time, the uber-chic, three-floor space has been made to reinterpret the style of the house’s iconic Parisian location on 30 Montaigne. Filled with natural light against the white and cream tones of the toile de Jouy and cannage motif decor, Versailles parquet floors and mirror-filled staircase, there’s an air of tranquillity and grace as you peruse the menswear on the ground floor, leather goods, accessories and women’s shoes on the first floor, and women’s ready-to-wear on the second. All the furniture in the space too, comes from some of the biggest names in the interior design world, while the art on the walls are from notable British artists such as Victoria Morton, Peter Seal and Selma Parlour. Go check it all out in the new location open now! TG
… and so does Bottega Veneta!
In a big week for London’s luxury shoppers, Bottega Veneta, too, has just opened its doors to a brand new store on Knightsbridge’s chicest thoroughfare, Sloane Street. Embodying Matthieu Blazy’s sumptuous vision, it marks a major moment for the house, offering the first purpose-built context in the region to browse (and buy!) exquisite pieces from the incumbent creative director’s latest collections. Designed and developed around a range of materials hailing from Veneto, the space exudes a welcoming warmth, replete with rounded darkwood chambers, elegant glass cabinets, and rippled terrazzo flooring – a style typical of the northern Italian region Bottega Veneta calls home. Nicholas Galitzine stuns in Fendi’s first menswear campaign
If you haven’t yet heard the name of up-and-coming star Nicholas Galitzine, you would have seen his head-turningly chiselled cheekbones – either in movies such as Cinderella (2021) or posters for the highly-anticipated, upcoming YA movie adaptation of Red, White and Royal Blue. Or perhaps you’ve seen his new campaign for Fendi menswear. As the first global ambassador for the men’s offering at the house, Nicholas stars in the first menswear campaign. Known for playing queer and subversive royal characters, the actor brings that energy to these photos and film by Nico Vascellari, embodying the subverted classism that has become a signature of Fendi’s codes in his drowning wool coats and scarves, sleek leather trousers and caps and cheeky smile. We can’t wait to see him in one of those sexy SS23 workman overalls at his next film premiere! TG

Babe, wake up! A new ASICS collab shoe has dropped! The brand is of course famed for their viral footwear and they have a new fun trainer from one of their young designer collaborators that is a must to check out. Reimagining the ASICS GT-2160 is Copenhagen womenswear designer Cecilie Bahnsen. The mary jane trainer is decked with transparent, floral-printed panels and a little bit of lacing above the toes acting like a street-ready bow. Cute! First shown on the runway for SS24, now, Takashi Homma takes the shoes to Japan at twilight, capturing them against the evening lights and empty city. Check the shoes out now on Cecilie Bahnsen’s store. TG
And ASICS drops three more new must-cop collabs!
ASICS aren’t done with the drops there either! All showcased during Paris Fashion Week at a pop up on Rue des Francs Bourgeois, there’s the extremely limited edition Airei collaboration shoe, where the upper is caked in plaster like you’ve got your shoes stuck in a plasterer’s stock. Montreal-based label Dime also gave a new style to the GT-2160, either in a cream and grey colourway or green and navy. Hal Studios then gave the GEL-1130 a minimal near all-white look which is then topped with bold, statement red laces. Keep your eyes peeled for the wide release drops of these! TG

Well, now the full campaign, lensed by Keizō Kitajima and Martine Syms, for the SS24 collection has been released. Looking impossibly slay rushing around NYC with a latte in hand, pregant-with-baby-number-two belly out and carrying the bright and bold Speedy – a bag with an updated design inspired by Lower Manhattan – Riri proves once and for all why she is, and always will be, the icon of the moment.
