Karl Lagerfeld continued to plough the beauty in the everyday with his catwalk scenario today. Whilst his earlier shows were set in stately gardens, beautiful houses and magical underwater worlds, his most recent two ready-to-wear shows for Chanel have been set in the supermarket and at a feminist street protest. And Karl is continuing this trend of examining the clash between his luxury clothes and a more workaday setting, this time transforming the Grand Palais into the ultimate French social space, the brasserie (this one named “Brasserie Gabrielle”, a nod to Coco’s real first name). Baptiste Giabiconi was on jus d’orange pouring duties, whilst Cara, Kendall, Joan, Sasha and Binx all strolled out across the beige mosaic floor, before taking seats at immaculate white clothed tables. Models carried dish plate handbags, tweeds mixed with modern puffas and all the looks came in the same sensible block-heeled lady shoes. So what beautifully banal scene will Karl go for next? La poste?
