check out unseen photos from nirvana’s nevermind album shoot

The baby reaching for a dollar underwater is one of the most recognized album covers of all time. Now you can see Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic recreating it.

After a few of his images appeared in the new Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck, photographer Kirk Weddle has finally released 19 previously unseen photos of Nirvana, recreating the iconic album art for Nevermind. Shot in 1991, Kurt, Dave and Krist make it look like everything’s better, down where it’s wetter… in a closed off pool in LA. They will be shown in an exhibition at Modern Rocks Gallery, Texas from May 30 – June 27, with limited edition copies going on sale.

The story goes that the initial baby-in-the-pool photo only took 15 minutes and half a roll of film to produce. One month after that shoot, the band met up to create some more promo shots. It was 10am, Nirvana had just come off tour and none of the boys were that willing to jump in a pool in October. Kurt Cobain even took a nap. But the band were eventually coaxed into taking the plunge, 200 pics were snapped and it looks like it turned into a pretty dreamy pool party.
