After arriving with Marc Jacobs to the Met Ball earlier this month, Cher has now been revealed as the star of his fall/winter 15 campaign. The announcement continues a trend for casting older female icons in fashion campaigns that has seen Joni Mitchell become the face of Saint Laurent and Joan Didion on the pages of magazines for Céline.
Musician and actor Cher – who who basically invented robotic voice modulation as a style, rather than an autotune error – wears a full-length brown pleated skirt, with lace stripes, and a cropped jacket with jewel embellishments and black gloves in the campaign shot. Styled with her long black hair dramatically curled, she is seated in front of a hot red backdrop in the David Sims-lensed portrait.
The campaign image was tweeted by long-time Marc Jacobs collaborator Katie Grand, and was quickly instagrammed by fashion journalist Alex Fury, who captioned the image, “Regrammed from everywhere and I don’t even care because you can’t see THIS too many times. Cher in Marc Jacobs. The best thing I have ever seen.”
