girls just want to have fun at molly goddard fall/winter 16

Molly's got a license to frill this season, and her presentation that was so good it had the models dancing for joy.

Molly Goddard’s presentation at the Topshop Space at the Tate Britain on Saturday evening was a timely reminder on the importance of not taking fashion too seriously. It was a joyous and intimate affair that showcased the artisanal quality and delicate details of the clothing to best effect. Her army of street-cast models — dressed in umber, blush, black, and neon-pink taffeta and organza dresses, accented with gathers and ruffles — stood demurely before sporadically breaking out into dance, soundtracked by Dario’s G’s “Sunchyme

“I looked at old couture shows, Mugler in the 90s, Galliano, Dior, and I really wanted the presentation to feel like that. I wanted the girls to really enjoy wearing the clothes and to feel comfortable,” Goddard says.

It’s clear that, for Molly, this season was instinctual and about going with her gut, “It was less about a theme for me, the clothes were really inspired by the fabric. I found neon-pink and orange taffetas I really liked and waterproof fabrics that gathered really amazingly and that was the starting point. The end result? Her signature dresses played more with volume and her silhouettes were pushed forward with beautiful ruching; separates in print corduroy and whisper-thin silk slips layered under tulle dresses were a modern take on couture.

While we may know the DNA of Molly’s world, her show was proof to always expect the unexpected, and that’s what makes her one of the most exciting young designers in London!
