If you thought Grace Jones’ naked hula-hooping Afropunk performance was crazy, clearly you have not been following her book tour. The 67 year-old avant garde icon is presently promoting the memoirs she promised she’d never pen, I’ll Never Write My Memoirs, a collection of truly unbelievable stories ranging from the time Andy Warhol and Debbie Harry threw her a baby shower at the Paradise Garage to taking her first hit of ecstasy with Timothy Leary. So it’s pretty unsurprising that Jones is touring the book like a total rockstar.

On Thursday night, Grace arrived two hours late to a signing at the Union Square Barnes & Noble — where she chain smoked and #freedthenipple during what has to be the most unexpectedly wild meet and greet the biography section staff has ever seen. Earlier that day, Jones demonstrated just how she got those abs: by dropping to SiriusXM Radio’s lobby and giving host Bevy Smith 50 push ups. Jones then pretended to take a bite out of Smith’s ass and challenged the host to a “nipple contest,” as SiriusXM’s blog reports, “stealing away to a darkened corner to see whose are bigger than whose.”
Patti Smith will sign copies of her forthcoming second memoir, M Train, at the very same Barnes and Noble on Wednesday. No word on whether the 68 year-old godmother of punk has any plans to one-up her fellow musical legend’s antics, but considering Smith recently wrote a beautiful tribute to seminal stoner cartoon Aqua Teen Hunger Force, really anything is on the table.
