In a newly released extract from her hotly anticipated memoirGrace Jones has revealed that her most radical haircut yet didn’t just look good, it felt amazing too. In an excerpt of I’ll Never Write My Memoirs released by the Guardian, Jones says, “Shaving my head led directly to my first orgasm”.

“This is because I am fairly sure the man I had my first orgasm with was Andre, my hairdresser from Cinandre, a huge salon at 57th Street and Madison Avenue… All the celebrities would go to hairstylists like Andre. He was very experimental. He cut the hair of lots of models and actresses, and he invented the Farrah Fawcett flick,” she continues, adding, “I suppose it’s not surprising that my first orgasm was with Andre. His fingers on my scalp working their magic helped, and it didn’t take much for that to lead to great sex.”

Elsewhere in the excerpt she reveals that she was the first person at her American school to wear her hair in an afro. “It was an abrupt way of telling the world: I am not a nice girl. I think my father thought I was losing my mind,” she says, explaining that, “I instinctively responded to how the first women letting their hair go natural and unprocessed were the daring, artistic types with whom I was quickly developing an affinity.”

As for shaving her head, she says it made her look more abstract, “less tied to a specific race or sex or tribe. I was black, but not black; woman, but not woman; American, but Jamaican; African, but science fiction”.
