We partnered with Thomas de Kluyver, Global Makeup Artist for Gucci Beauty, and longtime i-D contributor, and photographer Liv Liberg, in a celebration of nightlife, music and women, featuring five DJs and musicians, red-cheeked and flushed from a night of dancing.
The right song on a night out can change everything. In the early hours of the morning the perfect beat can take over your tired body and instil a new sense of life and confidence within you that radiates out as you move to the middle of the dancefloor. Suddenly those around you notice the cloud of rose blush framing your glossy eyes and shimmering under the pulsating lights.
This was the concept behind i-D’s latest beauty story celebrating Gucci Beauty’s first powder blush, Blush De Beauté. Made to be playful and versatile in daring beauty looks shadowing cheekbones, adding a glow to eyes or expressing yourself however your whims desire; the powders are effortlessly blendable and layerable, while a compact design makes it the dream companion for a touch up or changing your look mid-way through the night. The six shades are each made from Shea Butter, Hyaluronic Acid and Black Rose Oil – to create a luxurious, soothing and hydrating experience – along with luminous, matte-toned, powdered, emollient waxes and pigments that give variations of a flushed cheek aesthetic. Finally, to heighten the sensual experience, a peony and freesia aroma with musky citrus notes gives the blush a vintage fragrance glamour.
i-D showcased these club-ready looks on the faces of today’s nightlife scene: underground party host Osob Hersi, musician Lucia Sarsby, hyperpop star Violette Wilson, soundscape artist Anastasia Karkazis, and ever-changing creative Momo Morcego. And in that vein of self-exploration, expression and inspiration, we asked the music industry game changers about what and who is exciting them in the scene, their hopes and dreams, and what makes them feel beautiful.
Osob Hersi
What’s making you excited about music at the moment?
The traditional modes of clubbing are dying in London. There is a cultural shift happening in the way we rave post-pandemic and the cost of living crisis is a huge contributing factor. Also, a lot of club nights close at 3 or 4 AM which is very uncool. There is a budding resurgence of D.I.Y rave culture, reminiscent of the 90s scene, a boom in sound-systems and street or underground ‘free’ raves which is exciting.
Lucia Sarsby
What’s making you excited about music at the moment?
“I’m not scared to write the weirdest music I can think of. I believe if you take away the pressure of making it perfect. You are free to create whatever you want.”
Violette Wilson
Who is your biggest musical influence and why?
SOPHIE forever <3 Her sound design is definitely what got me into synthesis.
Anastasia Karkazis
Where would you like to be in five years?
Recording in a cave.
Momo Morcego
When do you feel most beautiful?
When my inner self is at peace, surrounded by those who I love, and doing what I love.
The Gucci Beauty Blush de Beauté is available now from the Gucci Beauty website.
