When we cast our minds back to the bleak blur that was last winter there’s one week that stands out like bright shining beacon. It was the one that commenced on November 16, the night when, from the comfort of our homes, we all forewent our usual Netflix binges to tune in to the first episode of Ouverture of Something That Never Ended: the seven-part epic co-directed by Gus Van Sant and Alessandro Michele.
Over the next seven days, we faithfully logged on to the GucciFest site to follow the journeys of our ethereal protagonist Silvia Calderoni — from her home to the cafe, from the post office to the theatre, from the vintage shop out into the streets of Rome.
Serving as both the official means of presentation for Alessandro Michele’s like-titled collection for Gucci and a fully-fledged miniseries in its own right, Ouverture of Something That Never Ended was a testament to a surreal, seismic moment in the history of cultural production. Through its ensemble cast, including Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Jeremy O. Harris and Lu Han, it bridged fields of film, music, art and fashion, paving the way forward for a new era of interdisciplinarity in the industry.
Six months on from when it was first broadcast, we were still as obsessed Gus and Alessandro’s mini-series as much as the first day we saw it — so much so, in fact, that we decided to team up with the Florentine house to bring you GucciZine, a 100-page celebration of the rich universe that the two auteurs built. Offers a deep dive into the world of Ouverture of Something That Never Ended, in it, you’ll find a bounty of unseen imagery from the entire oeuvre, and interviews with Silvia Calderoni, Paul B. Preciado, Arlo Parks, Achille Bonito Oliva, Ariana Papademetropoulos, and Florence Welch.
Has that whetted your appetite? Well, wait! There’s more, with exclusive posters and stickers to boot. So how can you get your hands on this collectible tome of Gucci x i-D memorabilia? By picking up a copy of our summer issue, of course! That’s right, with each copy of the issue sold, we’ll be sending out a fresh copy of GucciZine. Head here to get your hands on yours!
