“he knows exactly what he wants and I like that” — naomi campbell on the rise of virgil abloh

“From the moment he launched [his first label] Pyrex Vision in 2012, Virgil Abloh has shaken the fashion industry up. Why? Because after interning at Fendi with Kanye West for just $500 -month, the Illinois-born creative has carved out his own path.

“From Kanye to Been Trill, Pyrex Vision to OFF-White and now, as artistic director for Louis Vuitton men’s, he has fought, pushed and broken down walls because this is how you break the establishment as an outsider.” – Steve Salter, i-D.

So, as Virgil prepares to present his debut collection as artistic director of Louis Vuitton men’s, we’re going to be hearing from some of the 38-year-old designer’s closest friends and collaborators.

We’re going to be speaking to his old college dormmate, restaurateur Gabriel Stulman. We’ll be hearing from Oana Stanescu, the architect behind the designer’s OFF-White stores. And we’ll be chatting to Benji B, the DJ and newly announced Music Director at Louis Vuitton.

If that wasn’t enough, i-D Arts and Culture Editor Matthew Whitehouse will be joined by the one and only Naomi Campbell — the iconic model and friend of the designer, who discusses what Virgil’s appointment means for luxury fashion and the wider industry as a whole.
