jennifer lawrence rips the gender pay gap in lena dunham’s newsletter

"I'm over trying to find the 'adorable' way to state my opinion and still be likable! Fuck that."

Editor Lena Dunham really packed a punch with Lenny number 3 (not that she hadn’t before – Amy Poehler, we love you too). Dunham’s most recent newsletter arrives in the form of an essay on Hollywood’s gender pay gap by the one and only Jennifer Lawrence.

In classic Jennifer “I thought I saw Honey Boo Boo” Lawrence style, the Hunger Games star provides her argument with a pinch of humor and self-deprecation, admitting that her situation as a working woman is not exactly relatable. Starring in two franchises, J Law concedes she doesn’t really need to fight over the extra $$$ paid to her male co-stars because she’s got millions already: “I told you it wasn’t relatable, don’t hate me.” However, that didn’t stop the refreshingly candid actress from getting angry at herself after the Sony hack happened and she found out just how much less she was being paid than the “the lucky people with dicks.”

She goes on to speak about how women have been socially conditioned into believing they shouldn’t risk their “likeability” in order to speak up for themselves, and men have been socially conditioned to accept that. “I’m over trying to find the ‘adorable’ way to state my opinion and still be likable! Fuck that.” When will the day come when a woman can be called “fierce” and “tactical” for negotiating a deal for themselves instead of being labeled a “spoiled brat”?
