John Malkovich is starring in what is already the most annoying movie of the 21st century. 100 Years: The Movie You Will Never See will be showcased at Cannes this year, but it won’t actually be screened there. Instead it will be put in a special safe programmed to remain locked until its theatrical release date of November 18, 2115. Experimental director Robert Rodriguez of Sin City and Grindhouse will preside over the ominous sci-fi.
“The notion inherent in this is for us to try and imagine what the world will be like in 100 years,” Malkovich says in a trailer for the film. Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of Cannes Film Festival, appears quite confident of its merits. “100 Years starring John Malkovich is clearly an innovative cinematographic project,” he said in a statement. “I hope that our descendants will consider the movie 100 Years for the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2116.”
As long as it doesn’t end up in the cryopreserved hands of Martin Shkreli.
