Léa Seydoux has tested positive for coronavirus and may have to miss the premiere of The French Dispatch at Cannes.
According to Deadline, the actress has yet to make the trip to the South of France due to testing positive for COVID-19. A spokesperson confirmed to the publication that the Bond girl is asymptomatic, vaccinated and currently on the “tail-end” of recovery.
The Blue Is The Warmest Colour star will also remain in isolation in her Paris home out of caution. She was due to travel to the festival before its kick-off this weekend, but did not make it.
This comes at the start of what would have been a particularly busy Cannes for the French star. She’s featured in three films premiering in competition at the festival, most notably Wes Anderson’s much-hyped new film The French Dispatch, also starring Timothee Chalamet and Frances McDormand.
The premiere of the film is set for Monday night, with the actress currently isolating to ensure that she is safe to travel to Cannes to attend.
Her other features at Cannes include Bruno Dumont’s France, Ildikó Enyedi’s The Story of My Wife and Arnaud Desplechin’s Deception. France and The Story of My Wife are both premiering in competition.
The film festival is also an integral part of the actress’ genesis as an international breakthrough talent. It was at Cannes that she won the Palme d’Or for her performance as a lesbian art student in Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue is the Warmest Color in 2013. She has since gone on to transition into more mainstream Western films, including a stint in the James Bond franchise. She is set to reprise her role as Madeline Swann this year in No Time To Die.
Elsewhere at Cannes, the festival’s return from an enforced one-year hiatus continues with some dizzying previews.
Check out some of the most anticipated films dropping at the festival, including The French Dispatch, a new A-24 sci-fi and Paul Verhoeven’s controversial Benedetta.
The French Dispatch will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday night.
