After eight long months of teasing, Lil Nas X has finally announced that the release date for his single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” will be March 26, as well as revealing the song’s stunning cover artwork. With the track already approved by Rihanna — who called it ‘banging’ in a recent livestream (get her on the remix!!) — the song will serve as the follow up to Lil Nas X’s horny vers-top Xmas anthem “Holiday” and is believed to be on the “Old Town Road” singer’s highly anticipated debut album.

The artwork for the single is a playful depiction of Michelangelo’s painting The Creation of Adam, reinterpreting the scene with Lil Nas X embodying both God and Adam. One reclines in the clouds with fiery red hair and spidery nail art, a whimsical bow and fake hand arrow pointed at him by the godly figure who sports a long braid and perfectly placed plants. On Instagram, the rapper captioned the image stating “20K COMMENTS AND WE DROP THE VIDEO TOO!”

A snippet of the song was first teased back in July 2020, when Lil Nas X posted a video to Twitter in which he lip-synched along to the chorus in his car, which was then followed by many Tik Tok dance videos and an amorous photo shoot before the song was used in an advert for creative tech company Logitech during the Superbowl last month. The singer went on to suggest that a collab with Miley Cyrus, previously halted back in march 2020 due to the pandemic, might be back on track.
