Calling all ceramicists, basket-weavers, furniture designers and jewelry makers: Loewe has announced the launch of a new prize, awarded annually to celebrate works of craftsmanship. The aim of the award is to acknowledge work that shows true artistic vision, precise execution, material honesty and the distinct hand of its author.
“Craft is the essence of Loewe,” creative director Jonathan Anderson explains. “As a house, we are about craft in the purest sense of the word. That is where our modernity lies, and it will always be relevant.”
To run alongside the Loewe prize, the brand has announced that it will take part in a series of events during London Craft Week running from May 3-7, 2016. One event running on May 5 and 6 in the Loewe Mount Street store will see a master artisan from Madrid give a demonstration of the making of the classic Loewe Puzzle bag, designed by Jonathan Anderson.
