For the launch of i-D Asia we’re diving into the archives of i-D Japan, one of our first outposts in the region. Here, we flashback to the 2016 cover story of i-D Japan No. 2 The Heart-to-Heart Issue shot by Mario Sorrenti.

When this story was shot in New York for the cover of i-D Japan in 2016, the world looked a lot different. Trump hadn’t yet won the White House, Raf Simons had just joined Calvin Klein, and Japanese model Yuka Mannami was only a year into her career. Always one to catch a model at the right moment, Mario Sorrenti photographed Yuka right as her star began its stratospheric rise. And the rest, as they say, was history.
