Finally, here comes a new Miley Cyrus album

The newly crowned queen of rock 'n' roll is returning with new music sooner than you’d think.

If you’ve spent any time on the internet over the past few months, you will have witnessed Miley Cyrus’ rock-spun return to music, by way of the big single “Midnight Sky” that’s spent months climbing the charts. Well now comes the news we’ve all been waiting for: it’s lifted from a new full length album — her seventh, to be exact — that will be arriving very soon.

Yep, after the internet simultaneously lost their shit to Miley’s cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”, followed by a renditions of a classic number from The Cranberries a few weeks later, Miley has finally formally announced Plastic Hearts, which features 12 new original tracks alongside those aforementioned covers as bonus treats. The whole thing is set to drop on 27 November. It’ll be her first since 2019’s EP, She Is Coming.

Announcing the record in an Instagram post, Miley explained that it first began life almost two years ago, but was put on hold when she lost her house in the 2018 California wildfires. “Nature did what I now see as a favour and destroyed what I couldn’t let go of for myself,” Miley said in a letter she uploaded to Instagram. “I lost my house in a fire but found myself in its ashes.”

She continued: “Luckily my collaborators still had most of the music that was burned up in journals and computers filled with songs for the EP series I was working on at the time. But it never felt right to release my “story” (each record being a continual autobiography) with a huge chapter missing. If it were a chapter in my book, I guess I would call it “The Beginning”…usually when something is over we call it “The End”. But it was far from that.”

The album artwork was shot by the legendary rock photographer Mick Rock, who’s captured everybody from Blondie to Bowie in the past. We guess now, as Miley enters her new album era with the punkier Plastic Hearts, she’s gunning to join the same realm as those legendary figures too.
