2014 has been a pretty big year for Chantelle Brown-Young, AKA Winnie Harlow – the Canadian model with high hopes, big dreams, an infectious smile, and vitiligo, the autoimmune condition that causes partial depigmentation of the skin. At only 20 years old she has already featured in America’s Next Top Model, was hand picked to walk in Ashish’s spring/summer 15 show, and was the star of i-D’s final issue of the year: The Beautiful Issue. As the world waves farewell to 2014, we catch up with one of the biggest inspirations of the year to find out her hopes and dreams for 2015 and who she plans to kiss on New Year’s Eve.
What’s been the most significant moment of 2014 for you personally?
Skyrocketing in my career within one year. Each thing I’ve done from my first campaign to becoming an international model, being featured in i-D in the same season to walking runways, and being hand picked by a supermodel made my year that much more amazing! The year in a whole was spectacular. And busy!
What’s been the biggest and best change you’ve seen within fashion?
Open minds… The shift on perception of beauty in the fashion industry.
What’s the main thing you’ve learnt about yourself this year?
That I have a pretty small circle and although I love being around people, I enjoy having my small circle of loving confidants.
2014 has been the year of….
Dreams coming true!!!
What are your New Year’s Resolutions?
I don’t have any! If I want to change something I believe in starting right away 🙂
What changes would you like to see next near in terms of people’s perceptions of beauty?
The same as this year just further progression. I think this year was also the year of “open minds”.
What are you looking forward to most in the New Year?
More hard work!
Where will you be when the clock strikes 12 on New Year’s Eve?
Kissing someone in Canada lol.
If you could have one wish for the year what would it be and why?
Tons more amazing and prosperous international work!
