Free one nipple and you can call it a nip slip. But seven — as Simon Jacquemus did during his fall/winter 15 show yesterday? That’s a statement. (And yes, it’s also an odd number; he was not feeling symmetry this season.) To some, it was even a provocation. The designer is a finalist for the LVMH prize this year, and sending four beautifully bare-chested models down the runway is not the move of someone trying to fly under the radar. Which begs the larger question: why do we make such a fuss about nudity on the runway? There is no shortage of waist-up nudity in fashion magazines. Still, when Kendall Jenner wore a nipple-revealing sheer-knit body down the runway at Marc Jacobs fall/winter 14 it made headlines. Let’s not forget that the world kept spinning after Yves Saint Laurent debuted his sheer blouse in 1966. Jacquemus’s seven breasts weren’t even a total anomaly in Paris this week. In other breast-related news: Christophe Lemaire accessorized a serious skirt and cape combo with a boob-shaped bag today.
